We are very excited to announce that five members of our district will be leaving on February 28 for an adventure to the Eastern Caribbean, including Barbados, Dominica, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent. Their trip is part of Rotary’s group study exchange (GSE), a unique program that provides cultural immersion and a vocational exchange opportunity for young professionals between the ages of 25 and 40. While they may spend some time soaking up the sun on a beach like the one shown in the photo at left, GSE participants will spend most of their time observing how people in other countries practice the same vocation, attending workshops and meetings with their adopted district, District 7030, and developing relationships with professionals abroad.
The five members are (their sponsoring club is in parentheses): Monica Holzmer (Springfield Twin Rivers), Shelly Kane (Springfield), LillahMcBride (Bend High Desert), Heidi Ellis (Eugene Airport), team leader Rick Francona.
The District 5110 site has a special page with more information about the team and their trip. Also, you can get a first-hand look at the team’s preparation from their blog, “Put the Lime in de Coconut.” Once they depart on February 28, you can keep coming back to the blog to learn about their adventures and experiences while in the Caribbean.
